Form of place. Relation between Physical Form and place attachment

di Rouhollah Rahimi, Mojtaba Ansari, Mohammad Reza Bemanian, Mohammadjavad Mahdavinejad

The sense of place is the factor that transforms a space into a place with the sensory characteristics and special treatment for specific individuals. Place is a sensible and perceived space and associated with memory, that part of its meaning can be traced in human experience and emotions. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the efficacy and role of architectural form and structure of environment to create positive and negative emotions in the human mind over the place. To achieve this purpose in the research process Descriptive analytical method by composition the sample examining “garden-tomb of Hafez”, is used. The result is that the physical environment and form through specific mechanisms involved in the sense of place and In the sample survey the fact that the structure of form of this place consists of components that not only create a sense of place, but effect on other factors that create the sense of place, is provided.

PLACE, MEMORY AND RUIN

Place, Memory and Ruin: for an architecture that preserves the value of the historicity of the place

Valuing the project and landscape through the discovery of fragments or incomplete realities, crystallized in time, composes a figurative frame, whose act of design in architecture, as a form of reflection on architecture itself, the place and the context, unleashes a result of a clash between two announcers: the historical word of ruin and the word of the new built.

Martim Guimarães da Costa received his master’s degree in Architecture at University of the Beira Interior. In his master’s thesis, he used the written and constructed works of the architects Eduardo Souto de Mouro and Giorgio Grassi, using their preexistence intervention methodologies in order to analyze the relationship between the ruins and the landscapes where they are inserted. He is an architect and his work is carried out at various scales, from urban planning to furniture design. He designed single-family houses, multifamily housing, museums, services, commerce and public spaces, in study and execution projects in various contexts, such as for new construction, restoration, preservation, rehabilitation and urban regeneration. Currently, his research interest focuses on urban regeneration policies, areas of urban rehabilitation and preservation of built heritage.

For a long time the forest has been associated with the primordial fears ofhuman beings, slowly becoming an archetype. To understand the multiple meanings that this place of the unknown acquires in our imagination and in today’s urban environment, it is necessary to make a brief excursus on the different meanings the term can take, as well as on some other words related to it. Moreover, only going through the various meanings that it has acquired in history, we will come to understand more truly the contemporary concept of Urban Forest and how it expresses a renewed need for ‘wilderness’.
