NOTES ON PERCEPTION AND REPRESENTATION

By Rafael Sousa Santos

With this paper it is intended to address the perceptual aspect of representation, according to the following proposition: representation is the key of a privileged perception. Through the bibliographical review of a multidisciplinary set of authors – with particular focus on the work of Alberto Carneiro and Joaquim Vieira –, it is expected to verify the referred proposition according to three main subjects: first, perception-through-representation as a significant procedure to broaden and deepen the intelligibility of things; second, perception-through-representation as a form of knowledge based on conscious activity and the individual’s own sensitivity; and third, perception-through-representation as revelation and construction of the individual.
